The satellite thermal infrared image on May 12, 1994 shows that the isolated anomaly blocks surrounded the Taiwan Island from west, north and east. Its southeast end reaches the Hualian Sea.
On the next day, May 13, the temperature increase block moved to west due to the effect of west air current. The southwest end of the block strides the seismic belt east to Taiwan. Based on these images, we predicted that there would be an Ms 6 quake in the Hualian Sea during May 13-27, 1994.
In fact, the Hualian earthquake with magnitudes of Ms 5.6, 6.2, 6.3, and 7.0 occurred on May 23-24, 1994 in the sea area east of Hualian city of Taiwan (N24.5, E122.2). It proved to be a rather good prediction.
